Business and Bhagavad Geeta
The question that is being asked is: How to translate the philosophy of Geeta (the philosophy of Krishna) into augmenting the Business in India?
What is Business? Business is a process through which the best of the products, solutions and services are offered to the common public for money. Money is just an exchange. Money just replaces the earlier practice of a barter trade. And this business can grow only when it moves from being local to global. It grows only when it moves from being local to regional, national to multinational and global. And this business can be taken to the next level only through some kind of a system and a right leadership. There are some 7 elements that go in making a great business. And these 7 elements are: People, Products, Processes, Promotions, Productivity, Performance and Profit. Profit means that the business is earning a little more than it is investing in the business. Profit means something more than the efforts. Otherwise no business can really be sustainable. And in this whole thing the people precede in everything. It is people who create products. It is people who create technology. It is people who create relationships. The people element is the most important aspect of any business. Right people for the right jobs should be the principle. Therefore, the above 7 elements can also be called the Saptarishis of the business organisation. And the profit is only a by-product and resultant of the effective and efficient functioning of the first 6 elements. The goal of every business is to increase the profit and give a reasonable return to the investors by satisfying the customers by offering them products which give them a value for their money. The customer has to be at the center of every business. The customer is a king is an old adage. And the new thing is that the customer is a God. Grahak Devo Bhava (Customer is a God) should be the philosophy of every business. All the above 7 elements are interdependent and interconnected. And therefore a cooperative and collaborative approach can enhance the seamless integration of all the 7 elements into any business ecosystem. All the people and all the teams should work in a concerted and collaborative way. And each person should adopt a systematic method and a scientific approach in all his doing. One should not leave anything on chance. To do the best that one can should be the only choice. And nothing should be left on chance. The business owner should be like Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. And each person should be prepared to elevate himself to this level. Brahma created two values, Lakshmi and Saraswati, and handed them over to Vishnu and Shiva. Brahma stands for creation. Vishnu stands for sustenance. Shiva stands for creative destruction and transformation. Lakshmi stands for money as capital and Saraswati stands for knowledge as capital. And both these capitals are needed. All knowledge is to earn more money, and all money is to learn more knowledge. This is how these two types of capitals augment and strengthen each other. Every business should continuously work towards creativity and innovation. The business must create a Blue Ocean and should not remain in the Red ocean for any longer. Red ocean is only a survival strategy. And Blue Ocean is a leadership strategy. And all these are just basics in any business.
