Health and Happiness

Health is the biggest wealth. We have always been saying this: Sound mind in a sound body. Yes !! That is true. A healthy mind is possible only in a healthy body. We all need to begin first from the body. Our body has to be the beginning. That’s why Buddha used to say, “Our body is the door to our Buddhahood”. Our body is the beginning and our soul is the goal. One can never jump on the goal. We can never know our soul without knowing our body and without preparing our body for that goal. The door to the inner shrine goes through the body. There is no short cut in Yoga. All short cuts will result into short circuits. That is why we need to be very careful. We can not hurry in Yoga. Everything has got its own pace and rhythm. We all exist actually at three levels: Body, Mind, and Heart. That is, the physical layer, intellectual layer, and emotional layer. Our body is the most beautiful instrument ever gifted by nature. Before moving on to the other two layers, we need to first begin with the body. The body needs three most important things : right food, right exercise and right sleep. The mind needs right thinking and the heart needs right feeling. The ultimate synthesis of all these is the realization of our soul. This is called our spiritual well-being. This results into an enlightened living - a living that is full of awareness and consciousness.

Yoga can bring immense power and agility to the body. Yoga has the capability to give immense physical strength, intellectual strength, emotional strength and spiritual strength. Spiritual strength is the ultimate goal of Yoga. But before that we need to prepare our body first. Our body has to be the beginning. Physical strength and agility is the beginning and the first goal. We need to discipline our body in order to move to the other succeeding steps. Let us begin with the end in mind. The end in mind is attaining to Samadhi or spiritual well being. There are eight steps to Samadhi. That is why Patanjali’s Yoga is called Ashtanga Yoga. This means eight limbs of Yoga. These eight limbs are inseparable and one can not jump from the lower to the higher. One can not override any of the steps. They all are organically, psychologically and spiritually interconnected. Their connection is not mechanical. We have to move step by step and there is no other way. One step at a time should be the attitude. There is no competition in Yoga. There is only a cooperation and an interplay of the energies. Please remember that there is no short cut to Yoga. There is only creation in Yoga. Yoga means creating
yourself. It is same like what we generally say that there is no short cut to success. We also say that there is no gain without any pain. So each step or each stage has to be a joy ride. Success at one stage gives more energy to move to the other. One step becomes a stepping stone to the other. But can we directly start with the body? No, we can not. We have to do something more before we move on to the body.

The eight (8) steps of Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga are: (1) Yam, (2) Niyam, (3) Asan, (4) Pranayam, (5) Pratyahar, (6) Dharana, (7) Dhyan, and (8) Samadhi. These are the eight limbs of Yoga. This system is called Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga. It is a complete,
comprehensive and holistic approach to total health and happiness. It helps us in transforming our
Body to our Being. The goal of yoga is to move towards a healthy body, a silent mind, and a loving heart. The symphony of all these three is the realization of the Soul. This is the ultimate synthesis of Yoga. This is the ultimate union. Therefore, Enlightened Leadership prescribes the following Fitness Mantra for the spiritual well-being and enlightened living:
  • Right Food.
  • Right Exercise.
  • Right Sleep.
  • Right Thinking.
  • Right Feeling.
  • Right Doing.
The ultimate by-product, outcome, and end-result of all the above is Right Living and “Enlightened Living”. This is a by-product and not a goal. Enlightened Living may give rise to Enlightened Leadership, Enlightened Community, and Enlightened World. Yoga is a science of our union with the divine. Let us make Yoga as a way to our Health and Happiness !!

Who is Shiva? What is Shivalinga? Who is Ganesha?

Mythology is rich with all these. And we have no idea as to what these figures are. Are these real ones? Are these facts? Are these just myths? Let us explore.

Myth is not a Reality, and Reality is not a Myth

Duality is at the heart of creation. Symmetry is at the heart of existence. Ekam, Advitium is the most misunderstood maxim of the Upanishads. Let us transcend.
