FAQs on Spirituality
What is spirituality?
It is a way to discover one’s own being.
What is a spiritual path?
It is an inner path towards the center of one’s own being. It simply means you are trying to be aware of all your actions at the level of the body, mind, and heart.
Is there no path on the outer?
No, there is none. All outer paths eventually turn towards the inner. And this is the greatest turning point in one’s life.
What is the ABC of spirituality?
There is ABC of everything. In the management parlance ABC means, “Always Better Control”. And in spirituality ABC means, “Always Be Conscious”. Consciousness increases our awareness. It is better to be conscious in everything that we do. Observation changes the nature of the observer. The observer is not different from the observed. The observer is the observed. And through consciousness the object becomes the subject. And through awareness the subject becomes the consciousness. And this gives the experience of oneness.
Is there anything called renunciation?
No, there is nothing called renunciation. You don’t have to give-up anything to know yourself. The path is inner. You can do it from where you are. You don’t have to give-up your family, job, profession, etc. You have to give-up your wrong ideas and wrong notions about spirituality.
Science, Religion, and Spirituality
Science is a way to explain the whole reality objectively. Science is a way to explain the whole reality experimentally. And finally, it is a quest to explain the whole reality by way of a mathematical equation. An equation that explains everything. And reality means that which exists. And the definition of that which exists may change. The definition of that which exists according to the Big Bang is different from that which exists according to the String Theory. And to me, all that exists is all that is known, unknown, and unknowable. The science divides this reality into two components - known and unknown. They say that whatever they know today was unknown yesterday. And whatever that is unknown today shall be made known tomorrow. And this is the hope that science gives to the humanity. And it is on this hope that the science survives.
The earlier hope was Big Bang, and the new hope is Parallel Universes and the String Theory. The quest of science is to know the source of the Big Bang and the beyond. The quest of science is to know what caused the creation. The science divides the whole reality into three components - matter, dark matter, and dark energy. What we know today is the world of the matter. And that too only to some extent and not the whole of it. And we have no idea as of today what the other two components are made of. The matter is only some 3% of the whole thing. And the rest 97% of the whole thing is not known yet. As of today we only have some idea and some guess about the whole thing. The quest of science is to eventually find the unification of this division. The science also divides the whole thing into four fundamental forces - gravitational force, electromagnetic force, weak force, and strong force. And the whole quest of science is to find the unification of all these forces. The assumption is that there has to be one single representative and resultant force.
The science also divides the world of matter into the big and the small. The science divides the world of matter into the macrocosm and the microcosm. The world of the big matter, that is, the world of the galaxies, stars, planets, etc. is very well explained by the theory of relativity of Albert Einstein. And the world of the small, that is, the world of the atoms, electrons, etc. is very well explained by the quantum theory. And at the heart of the quantum theory is a duality and uncertainty. And these two theories, that is, the theory of relativity and the quantum theory do not talk to each other. Another effort of science is to unify these two theories and come out with a single unified theory. Science explains that the smallest particle of matter has a quantum or dual behaviour. According to science the smallest element of matter is both a particle and a wave. The particle behaviour means that it is finite and it is here and there. And the wave behaviour means that it is infinite and it is everywhere. And this whole story is that of the matter and its components. And we have no idea as yet of the story of the non-matter.
The science also presumes that the human being is also a part of the matter. The science presumes that all the components that go in making the matter also go in making the human being. And this is the biggest fallacy of the science.
The scientific quest is to basically experiment the singularity. And this becomes impossible to experiment because you can not remain outside the system and prove that singularity. That is, you can not remain outside the singularity and prove the singularity. And to me, therefore, physical singularity has no meaning.
The religions on the other hand claim that everything has been created by God. And all the religions have different descriptions of God. They talk about God but do not define God. They talk of God but do not describe God. All the religions agree that there is one God. And all the religions agree that all these paths lead to that one God. And still they keep on showing the superiority of their paths and their God. It seems, holier than thou is the strategy of all the religions. And they also speak of peace and the co-existence of all the religions. How can this then is going to be possible? There is an entire end-to-end Supply Chain of this God but there is no God. There is sourcing, manufacturing, and retailing but there is no proof of God. There are many shops and scriptures of Gods but there is no proof of God. There are more than 300 religions and more than 3000 scriptures on the planet earth. If a devotee asks about the God, he is then asked to visit various temples, churches, mosques, etc. He is asked to read various scriptures, and he is asked to go to various Gurus. He is asked to give-up everything - job, profession, friends, etc. He is asked to renounce everything. This they call renunciation. This they call Sanyas. And finally the person finds no God anywhere. He gets frustrated. And the bigger questions that remain unanswered are: What is God?, Who is God?, and Where is God?
